As the editor and a contributing writer, I present the following about my book. First, the title has changed! It’s now “109 Ways to Beat the Casinos”. The other writers had so many good tips that the book had to be expanded. Don’t be mislead by the title. Since most every casino gaming option has a “negative expectation” — meaning the casino will win almost all the time in the long run — we don’t try to tell you that we can change this expectation. What we WILL tell you, through 109 tips about all of the games and machines, is how to REDUCE the casino’s advantage over you, and how to improve your chances of winning. All of the authors of this book are players as well as writers. They’ve “been there and done that” and offer you many words of wisdom not contained in other publications. If you are going to go to the casino, this book is probably a good investment. It gives some good strategies which maximize your wins and minimize your losses. Considering the amount of money you can earn or save with these winning strategies, the price of this book is insignificant. Also, this is a very diverse book. It has winning strategies for a wide variety of casino games; so no matter what your favorite games are, this book can help you. Also, it can introduce you to new games. This book was very concise, helpful, and to-the-point about each topic in its content list. The items are (for the most part) helpful tips that are boiled down from more complex strategies for the games discussed. A few of the items are redundant and/or are just too common sense to be part of the numbered title. But most are appropriate, important, and well described. I would have liked more general detail on money management and casino details, but it’s a good beginner’s primer on many games and a good supplement to other more thorough books. Rating: 4 / 5

Walter Thomason and other experts such as Frank Scoblete, Henry Tamburin, and John Grochowski have written a very good book. Each piece of advice is short and to the point. The book is very well designed and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get a good grounding in most of the games. Rating: 5 / 5

Walter Thomason who wrote the excellent “21st Century Blackjack” has assembled a who’s who of gambling writers to give tips on all the games. The book works! Anyone interested in a quick-hit course in casino gaming will do well to buy this book. A very good job. Rating: 5 / 5

Whether you are embarking on that Monte Carlo night in your home town or a livin’ it up Las Vegas gampage, this is a book to get!

The author covers several areas from Slots, to the table games, including one of my favourites, Roulette.

Awareness is key, why learn the expensive way? Making rookie mistakes learning by paying through the nose. Get educated and pick up some great tips and understand the rules.

Well written and worth it, you’ll spend more on 2 minutes in blackjack or 5 minutes at slots.

I really like this book and have recommended it to others. It covers all the basic casino games. The descriptions are clear and concise. It is small enough that you can even put it in a coat pocket for a trip to the casino.

Yes, there are other books that tell you much more (in my opinion, way too much more) about one certain game or a certain few games. I have found no other book that covers so much in such a straightforward manner.

I’m a pretty smart guy. Just tell me the rules and the basic strategy and I can figure things out. I don’t need to be told how stupid I am if I ever even think about playing Let It Ride or Caribbean Stud. I don’t need to hear “war stories” about how the author made his living gambling and why his “system” is so great. I don’t need a treatise on Probability and Statistics. (I have a degree in Mathematics, thank you). This book doesn’t bore you with any of those things. It gives you the facts and leaves it up to you to decide how to gamble.

In addition to the rules and basic strategy there are straightforward tips on etiquette, interacting with the dealer, and tipping.

PS- In second place, I would put the Fodor’s guide to Las Vegas. Rating: 5 / 5

When I moved, I found this book in my library. I go frequently to southern Nevada, but I no longer have the money to sustain the losses one can incur even if one is a good player at “21.” I do enjoy gambling, and had decided to try video poker. I was presently surprised to find that with the information on pp. 43-48, I could turn a machine with a decent payout schedule into a positive expectation. I left Nevada with a net amount higher than I had seen from “21″ in quite a while. The information in this book has made me a great fan of video poker played statistically properly. Rating: 5 / 5

The book that first inspired my interest in gambling, this is the best text ever written on gambling by an Englishman. Black details methods to win at roulette by locating mechanically imperfect wheels, at poker by skill and mathematics, and at blackjack and baccarat by the application of “card-counting” techniques. He also debunks gambling fallacies. Throughout the work, Black displays a perceptive knowledge of the mathematics of gambling, which he conveys simply and with genuine enthusiasm.
For those people who think “you can’t win at gambling”, this book might be a real eye-opener. Rating: 5 / 5

This is an amazing book. It’s so entertaining and easy to read you don’t even realize how much you’re learning. The author asks questions I’d never even thought of, then he answers them so clearly and logically that I had no trouble absorbing the information. I’ve read a lot of blackjack books and was never really clear on the whys behind some of the recommendations. With this book, now I know what all the others were talking about. Rating: 5 / 5
